When I hear the word soul, all I can think is that I want to be peaceful within my soul. I know for myself and many others that in life our souls can get beyond far from peaceful. This can be from traumatic experiences, to just everyday life, and it is important to remember that our God will bring us peace.
Finding peace within my soul has been a long journey and still is one, but what I can say is that I could not find it without God and His word. As we know in life there are seasons, seasons of busy life, seasons of heartache, seasons of joy, or seasons of relaxations etc.; I tend to find myself as one of those people that is in multiple of those seasons at once, and they’re always the ones that weigh on my soul... a lot.
In those particular seasons, I find myself reaching for anything that will bring me peace and comfort. I have now learnt that I have two choices, I can choose to fill my soul with something that will bring me peace to my mind and thoughts for a short period, or something that will reach the depths of my soul and give me a heavenly peace.
Something I remember one of my leaders telling me one time, was when he spends time with God is that it is his time to just be a son. He didn’t have to live up to any expectation or give anything out to anyone else in that space of time. I took that thought as my own, when I seek God it is my time to be a daughter seeking the love and peace from my own heavenly Father.
"I will listen to what God the LORD says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants— but let them not turn to folly." Psalm 85:8
One of the best things about out God is that He promises us peace, he PROMISES us PEACE! He gives us peace as a gift! As it is a gift, we need to remember to receive it.
The last thing that I leave with you, is when you are in those seasons where the world is on top of you; live in the word of God. I’m not joking when I say live in the word, read it when you wake up, when you’re brushing your teeth, lunch break at work, whenever you get the chance. It is God’s word breathing directly into our soul.
